Adding a Little Yankee to My House

We have a nervous Penny in the house. She has been in our family for 7 years. Several of those years were quite destructive, but I think we finally got past that phase. Now the recovery of my house begins, starting with window trim.

Her favorite chew toys are windowsills. Not a great look when your house has blinds instead of curtains. To Google I go! The goal was to learn how to repair windowsills but I found that it is a lot easier to replace a windowsill than repair in some cases. Do I really want to call on someone every time a windowsill gets damaged to replace it? Or…. can I create some self-sufficiency and learn to do it myself? We go with option 2!

Now, I am from the northeast. This is relevant to the story, I promise! Every house I lived in had window casings (or trim) around them. That’s not a thing down South. Who knew!?

Learning a New Skill

So I am going to learn a new skill and add a little Yankee to this house. Learning that new skill will be done in the guest bedroom upstairs where I can make mistakes and it won’t be an eyesore to the rest of the house! Haha.

I am using this Bless’er House post as inspiration.

Window Trim & Light Blocking Curtains

I can get inspired by someone, like Bless’er House, and we start the project in the same place, but the beauty is that I can make it my own and in some cases I have to make it my own because no 2 projects are exactly alike.

Time to test my patience and my carpentry skills. Am I going to end up building a house, no. Will this give me the confidence in myself that I can do small repair jobs myself, yes.

I had to take a break from this project to fix my bathroom.
