The city of Alpine is a small town in West Texas. Alpine is the county seat for Brewster County with a population of just over 6,000 people in 4.80 square miles. It sits on a high plateau in the Chihuahua Desert with the Davis Mountains to the north and the Chisos Mountains to the south. Big Bend National Park isn’t but a stones throw away.

Finding and Visiting Indie Bookstores

I love books. I have been a reader my entire life. It is very common to find me the book section of Target or heck, even the grocery store. I love going to my local library whenever I can.

But I started something new this summer. We were traveling quite a bit for my daughter’s sport, pole vault, and we had some time available to us to sightsee. Naturally, I found some bookstores in a couple towns we were in. Super cute places!

The second one we went to I added an element for myself. I wanted to purchase a book from a local author. So I did my homework, found a local author and found a book I wanted to buy and read. When I visited that 2nd bookstore I found the book. The author was actually the OWNER of the bookstore and was there that day so she signed it for me! I was over the moon.

Finding a bookstore and local author in West Texas

Google is an absolute masterpiece! I used Google maps to find a bookstore in the area around Fort Davis. Cue Front Street books in Alpine. I used to google to find local authors. Cue Elizabeth Garcia (link).

After a bit of sleuthing on Front Street Books website, I found they carry some of her books! So my plan was set. Once In Apline, we would visit Front Street Books and I would buy One Bloody Shirt at a Time (Deputy Ricos #1) from them. Because I am a book nerd, I also ended up buying Night Will Find You by Julia Heaberlin (link).

The store was super cute. Lots and Lots of books. There was an entire table of just staff recommendations. The store is small and with so many books it was a tight fit in some places but totally worth it to look at all of the titles.

They have shirts and tote bags for purchase. The ladies that were working were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend stopping in to Front Street Books if you are on your way to Big Bend National Park or simply passing through!
